Reactivating Positive Memories Can Reverse Depression
It has been
shown by the team of researchers that the symptoms of the depression can be
cured in mice by artificially reactivating the joyful memories which have been
formed before the onset of depression. These findings have been published in
many news papers in which it has been offered by the researchers that there is
an easy explanation for the success of psychotherapies in which the depression
patients have been encouraged in order to recall good experience.
According to
the team of researchers with Engineering College Jaipur, new ways have also been suggested
by them in order to treat depression by manipulating the brain cells where
memories are stored as the researchers believe that this type of targeted
approach could have lesser side effects in comparison to most current
antidepressive drugs that bathe the complete brain.
The researchers
told that once the specific sites have been identified in the memory circuit
that are not functioning well or whose improvement will bring advantageous
results then there is the possibility of the inventing new medical technology
where the improvement will be targeted to the particular part of the circuit instead
of administering a drug as well as letting that drug function everywhere in the
brain.
As per the
study conducted by the team of researchers and Best MBA College in Rajasthan, this type of
intervention is not possible in humans but this analysis can be very helpful in
giving the information regarding where to target particular disorders. Although
it has been reported by the researchers that they could label as well as
reactivate clusters of brain cells which store particular memories and they
called engrams.
Most recently, it has been reported by the team of
researchers that they could plant wrong memories as well as switch the
emotional associations of a specific memory from positive to negative. It has
also discovered by the researchers that if there is the ability to reactivate
existing memories, ten it could be exploited to treat depression.
In order to perform this task, first mice have been exposed
by the researchers to a pleasurable experience. In this case, all of the mice
were male.
