Bacteria for Cleaning the Environment

We all know that bacteria play a very important role when it comes to the cleaning up the environment as they have the ability to leech the heavy metals from the environment as well as a potent greenhouse gas and in this regard, methanotrophic bacteria performs the double duty. But before exploring potential conversation applications, the concept of bacteria’s basic physiological must be understand by the researchers.

The team of researchers with Best Engineering College Rajasthan has identified two proteins which have never been studied before by them as they are partially responsible for the bacteria’s inner working. The findings of the scientist have been extended far beyond the methanotrophic bacteria according to the researchers. These two proteins have been found in the range of the other bacteria which also includes human pathogens. These findings have been published in many news papers by the researchers.

 Methanotrophic bacteria or in simple words methanotrophs have the capacity to take copper from the environment in order to install into the molecular machinery which metabolizes methane as well as turning them into methanol for food. In order to acquire copper, a chemically modified peptide which is called methanobactin is recreated by the many methanotrophs that tightly binds to copper ions in order to pull them into the cell.

The cellular machinery which drives the formation of methanobactin has been least understood. It has been discovered by the team of researchers that two proteins which are Mbnb and Mbnc are responsible for the production of methanobactin partially. An iron containing enzyme complex has been formed by these proteins converts an amino acid into two organic chemical groups. This chemistry has been resulted in methanobactin that recruits copper into the cell.

 It has been also discovered by the team of researchers and MBA College in Jaipur which these two proteins drive methanobactin production across all families of methanobactin which is producing species and also includes non methanotrophs. The involvement of a metal requiring enzyme in order to form these types of chemical groups is unprecedented as well as neither of the two proteins have been studied early by the team of researchers.
